When I found out a friend was expecting twins, I immediately thought about this adorable stamp set “Oh Baby!” illustrated by Rupa Shevde for Gina K Designs. Unfortunately this stamp set from 2010, has been retired. Although it is retired, it remains to be one of my favorite baby sets. I love how the two baby ducks represent the twins on this card.
Selecting Soft Colors
As you can see, I did not select typical baby colors for this card. In fact, gray and a soft yellow are colors that made this card gender natural. Specifically, colors by Gina K are Moonlit fog and Lemon Drop.
For a soft background little hearts were a perfect choice. To begin I placed the Mini Hearts Background Stamp by MFT on my glass cutting matt, rubber side up. Then using Moonlit Fog ink I inked up the entire background. Next I placed a piece of white card stock on top of the stamp and covered it with a piece of copy paper. Of course the copy paper prevented inky fingers. Then using my hands I pressed the paper into the stamp to pick up the ink.
This mama duck and her two baby ducks are so very cute. Because I was going to color this image with alcohol markers, I used Memento Tuxedo Black ink to stamp the image. In order to match the marker to the card stock, I used my Spectrum Noir color key. Colors: GB2, GB3, CT2, LY2, FS7, GG1, GG2, GG3 and GG4.
For layers I first used a Lemon Drop A2 size card base, then Moonlit Fog cut 1/2 inch smaller and finally the mini hear background cut another 1/4 inch smaller. Further, to soften the look I used the We R Memory Keepers Crop-A-Dile Corner Chomper to round all of the corners. Next using the Stitched Scallop Edges dies from MFT and my Fiskars Rotary paper trimmer I created two decorative strips to edge my image.
For the simple reason of stamping a straight greeting, I used my MISTI stamping tool. As a result of using the MISTI and a grid sheet, the greeting came out perfectly straight. This greeting is from the Elegant Florals 2 stamp set by Theresa Momber for Gina K Designs.
For finishing touches I first created a panel for the inside by rounding the corners of a piece of white card stock. Then I stamped a sentiment made by Momenta in black ink and the toy ducks in Lemon Drop ink. After attaching the main section to the Moonlit Fog panel I embellished it with lace and bakers twine from my collection. Finally I adhered this to the Lemon Drop card base. As a final note, I really like how this card turned out!
